The Securities and Exchange Comission has tapped Jennifer B. McHugh to be senior advisor to the director in its division of investment management, which oversees the multi-trillion dollar investment management industry.

In her new role, she will work with Norm Champ, the director of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management to advise him on issues related to mutual funds and investment advisors.

McHugh has been at the SEC since 1999 and began her career focusing on mutual fund rulemaking as an attorney in the same division. In 2000 she was special counsel for the Division's office of Investment Adviser Regulation and was senior advisor to the director before from 2001 to 2009.

The Division’s work developing regulatory policy for mutual funds and investment advisers is particularly meaningful and rewarding because it has a direct impact on everyday investors.

Since 2009 she had been a senior advisor to the outgoing Chairwoman Mary Schapiro while also serving a brief stint as acting director of the Division of Investment Management in 2010 and early 2011.

“Jennifer has a wealth of experience from her last four years in the Chairman’s Office that will be extremely helpful to the Division," Champ said.
