BNY Mellon Wealth Management has snagged a 26-year veteran of Northern Trust to fill a new post as regional president for Orange and San Diego counties in Southern California. Shannon Kennedy will be responsible for all growth and client service delivery for Southern California and will oversee sales and portfolio management for the firm’s Newport Beach office, the wealth manager announced Wednesday.

Kennedy assumes her new role on July 8. The longtime Chicago resident will relocate to Newport Beach, the firm said.

At Northern Trust, Kennedy most recently served as global director of sales, marketing and portfolio management for the company’s global family and private investment offices group. In that role, she worked with ultra high-net-worth families and their staff in identifying trends and facilitating client networking groups, according to BNY Mellon.

“The Orange County-San Diego region is a key and fast-growing wealth market. Shannon’s leadership and experience will help us build on our terrific momentum by further expanding our network and client base in Newport Beach and throughout the region,” David Emmes, head of US Markets-West for BNY Mellon Wealth Management, said in a statement.

The appointment is part of the firm’s long-term recruiting campaign to increase its sales force by 50% by the end of 2014. Since the firm released news of the campaign last month, it has announced four hires, including three directors of business development last week.
