Umpqua Private Bank has nabbed a former Citi Private Bank executive to spearhead the bank’s expansion into the San Francisco region. Shane Hiller will build the private banking team and lead growth in the region, the bank announced in a press release.

Hiller joined Umpqua as senior vice president and market leader. He was previously director at Citi Private Bank and has more than 20 years of wealth management experience, including senior wealth management positions at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Wells Fargo Private Bank, and Bank of America.

Umpqua’s expansion into the San Francisco Bay area reflects growing demand for an integrated approach to wealth management, the Portland, Ore.-based bank said in the announcement. In May, the private bank made a similar move in Seattle, naming industry veteran Elise Fortin, a former executive of Wells Fargo Private Bank, to lead the bank’s expansion into the Puget Sound region.

“It’s a pleasure to have a regional leader with Shane’s depth and diversity of experience on board, and we look forward to his success building a regional team and growing our private bank presence as a whole,” Kelly Johnson, executive vice president of Umpqua’s wealth management division, said in a statement.

Umpqua Private Bank, which launched in Portland in August 2009, serves clients with more than $3 million in net worth and $1 million in investable assets.
