Union Bank has hired Stephen Sherline as the Los Angeles regional managing director of The Private Bank, part of its wealth management group. Sherline will oversee all facets of wealth management, including wealth planning, investments, risk management, fiduciary services and banking, for multiple locations in the Los Angeles area, Union Bank said in a statement.

Sherline was formerly the managing director of investments for Fifth Third Bank, where he led a team that managed more than $3.3 billion in assets.

In a statement, Dennis Mooradian, executive vice president of wealth markets, lauded Sherline’s banking and financial management experience and added that Sherline’s team “will serve new and existing clients in the region by offering client-focused, customized wealth management solutions.”

Union Bank also announced the promotion of veteran bankers Chris Merrywell and Joe E. Sweet II to regional managing directors of The Private Bank. Merrywell will oversee offices in Washington and Oregon, while Sweet will oversee offices in Southern California.

Merrywell joined Union Bank in 2008 as a senior vice president in The Private Bank where he managed a team of wealth management professionals and oversaw offices in Seattle, Tacoma and Bellevue, Union Bank said.

Sweet joined Union Bank in 2001.  Prior to that, he spent 27 years with Bank of America in management positions in corporate banking and wealth management.
